Contraceptive Implant:
- FDA Approves Updated Nexplanon Label and Launches New REMS – Effective January 16, 2026, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the Supplemental New Drug Application (sNDA) for Nexplanon (68 mg etonogestrel implant), extending its approved use from 3 years to up to 5 years for pregnancy prevention. All providers performing Nexplanon insertions or removals must now complete the FDA-required Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) certification.
- Nexplanon Healthcare Provider Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) Flashcard – Provides information about REMS certification and the updated Nexplanon Clinical Training Program for active, inactive, and new Nexplanon healthcare providers.
- Nexplanon REMS – The Nexplanon Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) is required by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ensure the benefits of Nexplanon outweigh its risk of complications due to improper insertion and removal.
IUD and Contraceptive Implant:
- Clinical Training Center for Sexual and Reproductive Health (CTC-SRH) – Provides both on-site and virtual IUD training and contraceptive implant placement to healthcare providers in Title X settings (will ship IUD demo kits and pelvic model directly to the provider).
- Innovating Education in Reproductive Health – This video series, created in partnership with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) LARC Program, covers a variety of clinical topics related to the provision of LARC methods.
- The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists – This video series, created in collaboration with the Innovating Education in Reproductive Health program at the University of California, San Francisco Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health, covers a variety of clinical topics related to the provision of LARC methods.
- Beyond the Pill – Provides three types of CME/CE-accredited training: virtual, on-site, and online (self-paced) to increase provider knowledge and skills and improve patient access to the full range of contraceptives. The virtual trainings cover best practices for contraceptive care during COVID-19, and help clinics incorporate telemedicine.
- Beyond the Pill IUD Competency Checklists – Provides evaluation information to assess competency at placing IUDs.
- Essential Access Health – Provides trainings to enhance the skills needed to provide high-quality IUD and implant services, including effective patient-centered counseling, techniques for method placement and removal, best practices for the prevention of complications, and management of complications and challenging cases.
- National Clinical Training Center for Family Planning – Provides both on-site and virtual IUD training and contraceptive implant placement (will ship IUD demo kits and pelvic model directly to the provider).
- Upstream USA – Provides CME/CEU-eligible virtual trainings to providers that include a combination of e-learning modules, videos, live workshops, and an in-depth practicum for clinicians.
